We have been growing and selecting garlic at Mad Cat Farm for several years, beginning with named varieties such as German Extra Hardy and Music. Originally we were aiming for a garlic that was disease resistant, productive, cold hardy and with large cloves. However, in time, the most productive and hardy specimens had medium sized cloves and more of them. A bulb will be tight, white and medium sized with 7-8 medium sized cloves. The taste is spicy and garlicy... quite delicious!
 
We now offer this hardneck garlic selection as "MCF Select", since it is the only garlic we grow on our farm and the only one we use for culinary and medicinal purposes.
 
To plant, simply break the bulbs into individual cloves and plant in good, weed free and well-drained garden soil in the fall. Mulch the site and keep it weed free in the spring and summer. Harvest in mid-summer after the leaves have died back 2/3 of the way. Make sure to dry and cure the garlic before storing it.
