These seedlings are the result of decades of meticulous breeding, originating from an orchard at the Rt. 9 Chestnut Co-Op. This controlled environment has fostered a population of half-sibling families that boast a concentration of desirable traits:

While these are seedlings, not grafted trees, and therefore will have some genetic variation, they come from very well selected stock. Chinese Chestnuts are known to be more disease resistant than American Chestnuts, and are a very good choice for many home growers and agroforestry plantations. These trees will need full sun and well-drained soil.
