Elecampane can be grown from root cuttings that have at least one "eye" or bud. After receiving your root cuttings, they should be planted immediately. They can also be kept in the refrigerator wrapped in damp paper towel, newspaper, sawdust or peat for 1-2 weeks. Never store them in the freezer.
Each crown piece will grow into a new elecampane plant. Plant crowns in a location that receives full sun with moist, but well-drained soil. Place crown cuttings so that the buds point upward and cover in 1-2” of soil.
Mulch the planting site with straw, wood chips, a thin layer of grass clippings, etc. Keep watered and weed free until the plant is well established.
After a year, you can begin harvesting elecampane roots for medicinal use or further propagation.
